No Chinatown Field Trips for Student Groups in 2022

Wok ‘N Walk Tours of Chinatown

Student tours are not  being scheduled for 2022.

We will let you know when they resume. In the meantime, stay well and be safe.

Celebrity Chef Joseph Poon hosts private group (20 or more guests) walking tours of Philadelphia’s Chinatown when he is in the area. His travel and watermelon sculpture commitments often takes him out of the area.

Tour Meeting Place:  The Chinese Friendship Gate at 10th and Arch Streets.  Meet on the Trocadero Theater side of the street five minutes prior to tour.

On this 2 1/2  hour combined event, students explore Chinatown and its culture, see live fish at an the Asian  market, visit a Chinese bakery to taste bubble tea, various other stops in Chinatown to experience and  hear about the community’s history and walk through the Chinese Friendship Gate on Arch Street, where all tours meet! Tour stops vary according to availability and are always interactive, motivating and entertaining.

Two hour tour followed by dim sum lunch in Chinatown with  Chef Poon

(Groups of 20 or more)

When tours resume, to arrange a group field trip, please  contact us via this website. Chef Poon looks forward to hosting your student group.

Please tell Chef Poon that we had a fabulous day! The kids loved the trip…they are all talking about the food :-)”

— Patty B, teacher, Chester County School District

“Chef Poon is a wonderful tour guide! My students were fascinated, educated and entertained. It was great to see them having so much fun and to hear the positive messages Chef Poon emphasized throughout the tour. Plus, making the arrangements was easy and lunch was delicious.”

— A. Bender, teacher, Northwest Lehigh High School

WOW!! What a truly fabulous, spectacular time we all had!! The scouts ate every speck on their plates and really enjoyed every special place Joe took us. We could have stayed with him for a few more hours. He is certainly one special soul!”
— C. Gosser, Troop Leader #3454

I think this might have been truly life altering for my students, most of whom rarely meet someone outside their culture and religion and who rarely, if ever, have ventured to Center City, much less Chinatown. Parents were saying that this was a once in a lifetime experience.”
— L. Leff, teacher, Souderton Charter School

The tour was fantastic! I was energized by Chef Poon’s uplifting personality and couldn’t wait to tell my family and friends about it. We would definitely recommend it to everyone.”

— M. Ebner, mom of scout, Philadelphia, PA
