"Chef Poon is a wonderful tour guide! My students were fascinated, educated
and entertained. It was great to see them having so much fun and to hear
the positive messages Chef Poon emphasized throughout the tour. Plus,
making the arrangements was easy and lunch was delicious."
-- A. Bender, teacher, Northwest Lehigh High School
"WOW!! What a truly fabulous, spectacular time we all had!! The scouts ate
every speck on their plates and really enjoyed every special place Joe took us.
We could have stayed with him for a few more hours. He is certainly one special soul!”
-- C. Gosser, Troop Leader #3454
"I think this might have been truly life altering for my students, most of
whom rarely meet someone outside their culture and religion and who rarely,
if ever, have ventured to Center City, much less Chinatown. Parents were
saying that this was a once in a lifetime experience."
-- L. Leff, teacher, Souderton Charter School
"The tour was fantastic! I was energized by Chef Poon's uplifting personality and
couldn't wait to tell my family and friends about it. We would definitely
recommend it to everyone."
-- M. Ebner, mom of scout, Philadelphia, PA

Hands-On Dim Sum Making Class & Visit to Fortune Cookie Factory
With Celebrity Chef Joseph Poon
Celebrity Chef Joseph Poon invites students to join him for a hands-on dim sum-making class. Chef Poon will have the students laughing and smiling while they learn to make dim sum. Each student will get the ingredients and different wrappers to make his/her own dim sum. Students will learn how to wrap three different types of wontons (American, Shanghai and Hong Kong ) and to make shi mai, quail egg shi mai and a variety of dumplings. Dim sum is Cantonese for “heart’s delight” and includes a variety of small, mouth-watering dishes, which can be served any time of the day and are standard fare in teahouses.
After learning to make dim sum, the students can sit and savor their creations. Then, Chef Poon take the group to a Fortune Cookie Factory for a look and taste!
The event takes 2-1/2 to 3 hours including the class, meal and visit to the Fortune Cookie Factory.
Lunch is spring mix salad, the dim sum the students made, dessert and Chinese tea. Your group can schedule a class on a weekday or weekend at Chef Kitchen in Philadelphia Chinatown. The class and meal costs $28 per student; $35 per chaperone. Includes tip.
